Why Costa Rica?
For travellers to Costa Rica there's something for everyone. Wildlife, verdant hills, tropical flowers abound and the skies are beautiful, day & night, rain or shine. In the Central Pacific region, where you'll find Playa Hermosa de Jaco - enjoy easy nature walks or ride white water rapids on mountain rivers. Surf, swim, fish & explore. A number of beaches stretch down the coast. Most of them are un-crowded, & are hidden by patches of forestland. The coastline has a great selection of surfing and swimming beaches to choose from. Southern Puntarenas is abundant with wildlife & the tropical rain has produced deep forests. Parque National Corcovado, a beautiful but lonesome national park, is one of the largest rain forests along the Pacific coast of Central America. Visitors wanting to get away from it all also choose the Península de Osa, which has wilderness, sportfishing & diving lodges, all of them catering to nature-oriented travelers. Given Costa Rica's latitude - day length and temperature do not change drastically with the seasons. The sun rises around 5 a.m. & sets around 6 p.m. year round. Temperature differences are experienced by changing altitude. The misty highlands are in the low to mid 50F/10C, while the Central Valley at 3800 feet, averages mid 72F /22C. At sea level, the temperature is 80F/26C, tempered by sea breezes on the coast. Slight variations occur in December to March, due to cold winds from North America. These cooler temperatures bring on the dry season or "summer,"which lasts from December through May. Temperatures start to rise as the sun approaches a perpendicular position over Costa Rica. This causes increased evaporation and brings on the rainy or Green Season from June through November, except for a two-week dry season, called "el veranillo de San Juan" (the "little" summer), which occurs sometime during July. The truly hot months are March & April. During the rainy season, May to November, the days tend to start out warm and sunny and cloud over later. Showers can start mid-afternoon but the temperature is still warm. When it rains, it really rains, but afternoon downpours are usually short lived & you'll be able to wear the kind of clothes you'd expect in the tropics. At any time of year, Costa Rica is an adventurous choice & Hermosa Bungalows is the perfect starting point.
